The first day we tried to visit Minnetonka Caves, it was Pioneer Day weekend (and, in Utah, that means its a holiday weekend so it's a busy time). We drove all the way up the mountain, only to be stopped a quarter mile from the cave entrance by cars that were parking alongside of the narrow road and walking the rest of the way up to the cave. Yea, with five little kids, that was sooo not happening. But, it was a beautiful, cool day with a beautiful view. And, it was lunchtime.
It was the perfect opportunity to take lemons and make some lemonade. We found a little turn-around area and pulled over and set up camp. The kids enjoyed the food and the little side-venture and, even though they were disappointed that we didn't make it to the caves that day, we still had fun and let them know we'd come back another day when it wasn't so busy!
Great opportunity for a family picture too! |
