Volleyball

See that big smile?  Yup, that's Emily loving volleyball!  This year she told us that she wanted to take a break from dance and try something new.  So, we signed her up for volleyball and she loved it.  I can't tell you how nice it was to hear her excited about going to practices and games!  She's such a social butterfly and being on a team definitely fits her like a glove!

For anyone who doesn't know, volleyball at her age is a game of serves.  Whichever team gets the most serves over usually wins.  Emily really helped her team with some excellent serves throughout their season!  She has good instincts and decent passing form too so I'm guessing she may be a good libero one day!
Emily and her good friend, Ella.  (I'm guessing Ella will be the middle blocker to Emily's libero :-).  Lucky girl!)

Other future players--Campbell, Juliana, and Brooklynn :-).

Em's TEN!

It's hard to believe that we have a 10 yr. old in our midst!  I remember Emily turning five like it was yesterday--where did the last five years go??

As we embark upon the tween years, I must say that it wasn't by accident that Emily is my oldest.  She is "first born" in every sense of the phrase.  She is driven, creative, commanding, nurturing, energetic, and yes, just beautiful.  Emily is a t-shirt and jeans girl (which, I admit, is what I usually go for, but I'm still constantly trying to get her to broaden her fashion horizons).  She is a wonderful big sister and the little girls can hardly wait each day when Emily gets home from school.  She always has some fun game to play and genuinely enjoys playing with her younger sisters.  Though we have our emotional challenging moments, there have been so many days and evenings that I am deeply grateful for Emily's willingness to help.  Whether it's being a peacemaker, playing, or reading a sibling a story, when push comes to shove, I can almost always count on my Emily.
Such a sweet picture of Ju Ju and Britta
Grandma and Grandpa had to leave on the morning of Emily's birthday, so we snapped a few photos before having to wave a tearful good-bye.

We were so grateful to have Cubby's parents in town for such an important and fun-filled weekend.  Their constant love and support means so much to our family.

Later that evening, Grandma Karen and Grandpa Harvey came over and it was present time!  Emily opened up Kari's gift first.  It was a pillow and that Kari (and I) had made!  It was so cute and it was all Kari's idea.  Felt flower appliques sewed onto fabric that we then turned into a pillow.  Kari was beyond excited to give it to her and Emily loved it.

Next up, Christian's gift.  Now, I knew that once Christian knew that Kari had made a gift, that he would want in on the action.  Enter Pintrest.  Christian made Emily a very cute (albeit long) scarf!  Emily was very touched that her brother and sister made her such thoughtful gifts.

For Juliana's gift, I was out of creative steam (and time)!  So, Ju Ju gave Emily a couple of movies that she'd wanted.  Emily rewarded Juliana with a sisterly hug and, presto!, love abounded.

Cubby and I's big gift to her was a sewing machine!  She has loved using it, making little Christmas gifts and mending Barbie clothes.

Ah, the big surprise of the night came when she opened up her new Kindle fire from Gma and Gpa!  Boy, was she excited!  Cubby and I were worried that it would cause too many problems, and, while it has caused a few, Emily has been extremely generous with her new "toy."  It also makes for a great bargaining tool ;)!
So, I'm pretty sure Emily had a wonderful tenth birthday!  We love you, Emily!

Britta's Blessing Day

It was quite the weekend for our family!  Thanksgiving, soccer, Em's birthday party, and Britta's blessing!  Grandma and Grandpa Lindseth had come into town specifically for this last event and what a special day it was for our sweet baby!

Cubby gave a wonderful blessing.  I remember him specifically saying that Britta had come to our family for a special purpose.  Now, that's a pretty broad statement, I realize, but it still was meaningful because ever since the ultrasound tech told us that we were having another girl, I've wondered why Heavenly Father saw it fit to bless us with so many daughters!  I believe we were a family before coming to this earth so, obviously, she was meant to be with us.  Still, it was really neat to hear that she has a special purpose, even if that purpose is just to make my heart explode with love each time I see her!

Sadly, this is the best picture we could get of everyone.  {Sigh}

We are so blessed with incredibly supportive extended family.  It was so wonderful that they came for Britta's special day.

Three generations of handsome!
After dinner, we went over to my mom's house for some super delicious yummy cake.  (There's a new cake/cupcake place in town that makes the most AMAZING cakes [and cupcakes].)

It was a great end to a busy, but wonderful, weekend!

Indoor Soccer

Fall soccer ended at the end of October and indoor soccer began!  Christian continues to be a little soccer stud and, despite not being able to go to practices (due to space availability they have to hold practices on Sundays :-(...), he continues to enjoy playing the Saturday games and improve his skills.

Grandma and Grandpa got to come along and watch Christian play!  (And yes, Juliana is wearing her Elsa dress from Halloween.)

More of Christian's cheering squad!

Gingerbread Disply

Every year we go to the gingerbread display down at the Mormon Trail Center.  There are some really amazing creations that come through there and the missionaries serving there even put together a scavenger hunt for the kids to do.  They love it :-).

One of the largest displays this year was the Wizard of Oz.

This was my favorite--a tribute to Calvin and Hobbes :-)

Grandma and Grandpa got to come with us this year!
Shout out to Memorial Stadium

A more traditional display--cute detail work
We went upstairs and they had a Nativity dress-up scene.  Very cute.

Have You Seen This Wizard?

Here are the shots from our photo booth!  I think they turned out pretty great!
