Pumpkin Carving

Everyone loves the idea of carving pumpkins...
But no one likes the removal of the pumpkin guts.  I know there are families out there that LOVE this part, but not mine.  Oh well.  We have other gifts and talents.

Poor Em.  I think someone flicked a pumpkin seed at her.
Emily does, however, have a talent for the actual pumpkin carving...and multi-tasking.  She watched Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse while carving long after everyone else had called it a night.

And here are the finished products!  Yes, Emily did that awesome Barbie one!

Pumpkin Carving FHE

The Monday night before Halloween we carved pumpkins for Family Home Evening (FHE).  Now, when I say "we," I mean Cubby scooped out the guts and I carved the faces.  Well, the first two pumpkins anyway.  By the third one, Emily and Christian were ready to help out with the carving.  How come none of my children like the guts, huh??  They don't mind touching gross things outside like worms and mud...you'd think they would think this would be cool.
Kari, our resident kitty-cat, did a good job of supervising
Grandma and Grandpa came over for the festivities too.
Emily got her snuggle on.  Very sweet that she still loves to snuggle with her Gma.
Juliana loves to read with Grandpa.

Our big kids, each taking their turn carving.
We had the Curious George Halloween special on the TV.  The kids loved it.  (And I think George is one of my favorite cartoons so all was well.)
The finished products!  One three-eyed pumpkin, one Frankenstein pumpkin and one vampire pumpkin.

Pretty cool, I must say!

Pumpkins and Trunk-or-Treat, #2..the festivities continue!

Friday night we had a special FHE (Family Home Evening) and carved our pumpkins! Emily and Christian each had very specific ideas about what kind of pumpkin they wanted. Here's how they turned out! Christian made a "mean face" when he was describing what kind of face he wanted carved. Pretty close, eh?

This is Emily's "pretty girl pumpkin". Complete with eye lashes, a blue bow and "hair"!
Here are the final results! (Cubby carved the last one and took in everyone's ideas to make a "silly, scary, happy face.")
Saturday night was our church's trunk-or-treat party! It was really great. The children had fun dressing up and seeing all of their friends in their costumes as well. Christian's big moment came when he won second prize in the costume contest! Go little robot, Christian!

These two little cows have a cute story too. Both Kari and Makenna's costumes were worn previously by their older siblings, Christian and Maren! Check them out below...when the "big kids" weren't so big! (We're still looking good, Jenn, eh??)
