Nauvoo (Part 4)

Carthage.  This was our last stop on Friday morning before heading back home.  This was the place that the prophet, Joseph Smith, and his brother Hyrum, were martyred.  This place, also, has a special feeling to it.  We were able to take a tour and learn about how these two men lived and died for what they knew to be true.  It was a sobering experience to be there.

While we were waiting for the Van Rys to arrive, we took a few photos outside.  (Emily didn't want her photo taken.)

On the tour, we visited each of the holding cells and heard the story of the events that had transpired there.
The bullet hole in the door where the mob broke in and shot the men inside.
The window that Joseph fell from after he was shot.
After our tour, we had to say our good-byes.  I made sure I got plenty of cousin pictures--these kids love each other so much, even though they only get to see each other once or maybe twice a year.

You can tell it was a good trip when:  1) Three of your four kids are crying as you drive away...
And 2)  When three of your four children end up falling asleep shortly into your drive home :-).
We made it home without any car issues and without any major meltdowns!  My kiddos may become road warriors yet!  We were so grateful to have been able to take this trip and meet up with family!  It was definitely worth the work that goes into traveling with a family!
