Preparing for our trip

We will soon be leaving for a fun-filled trip to New York! We will get to visit Cubby's family and spend some time playing with Grandma and Grandpa, aunts, uncles, and cousins! We're very excited for the whole trip in general as it will also give us a well-needed trip out of town!

As I am starting to prepare for the journey, I want to know if there is anything that anyone else who has recently traveled with children found they just HAD to have during the flight. Whether it be a certain toy or if you just know of something handy to have on hand while you travel, I'd love to hear your ideas and suggestions!

Dum Dums. Lots of dum dums. And puzzles. Plus a bunch of cheap toys from the dollar store. I have purchased pull suitcases for both the big kids so that they can pack some of their favorite things and be in charge of it before and during flights. I just always stick some new toys they have never seen in there, too. And make them wait until the plane is in the air before they get to play with anything...or all your tricks will be gone before the plane even takes off.

No advice since last time I flew with any children was when J was 5 months old, I just wanted to say good luck!
I guess my sister in law swears by the portable dvd player though.

I flew with Kaden and Bethany in January. I don't think he could have survived without his portable dvd player, books and little toys. When we drove with Kaden to Oregon for Thanksgiving, Shawn had a bag full of little toys (like army dudes and robots) that he would give Kaden periodically for being good. It worked pretty well to keep him from whining. He kept trying to be good to get a new toy.

I also think the best is portable DVD player and Dum Dums. I also pack different baggies of snacks and a favorite blanket or toy. Oh ya have Cubby give the kids a blessing before you leave and dont forget yourself. I will keep you in my prayers! Cammy

DVD PLAYER!!! That is the best purchase we ever made, well one of them anyway. Dums dums or candy that takes a while to eat like smarties. A new something, whether it be a coloring book or puzzle, so they get excited about it on the plane. That is so exciting to go and visit family. Hopefully all goes well.

Yes, I agree with what everyone else said. We flew once and I bought this little miniature fishing game (you know the one with the fishing pole with the magnet on the end, and the fish turn in a circle and open there mouths periodically). Well, anyway, I bought this little game and didn't give it to Gwen until we got on the plane--she played with it the entire trip! And yes, I would not go ANYWHERE without the portable DVD player, I'm pretty sure those little doo-dads have literally saved lives.

No suggestions since Thomas is only 3 months. But enjoy your trip!
