Skating Party

When we asked Kari what kind of birthday party she'd like to have, we thought she'd answer, "Princess" or "Dora" or "A Pink Party."  Something along those lines.  Well, she surprised us by telling us she wanted an ice-skating party!  And, it worked out perfectly that the skating rink we like to go to was having an open skate the Saturday before her birthday.

Kari, with her besties Campbell and Alexa ("Lexi")
How did skating with 3 and 4 year olds go?  Well, it was kind of like I thought it would go.  Some of the kids loved it and wanted to keep trying; others were out for a couple of minutes and decided that the bounce house that the rink had up for the day looked a lot more appealing :-).  Kari loved all aspects of her party so I'll chalk it up as a winning day.

Speedy Christian
Jeff got VERY brave and put skates on for the FIRST.TIME.EVER.
Christian kept saying, "C'mon, Jeff...you're too big for me to pull!"

The cheering section--Cubby, Harvey, and Juliana
After skating (and bouncing) for a bit, the kids had worked up an appetite and it was time for cake!
Kari had requested a pink princess cake.  Grandma and Emily made it and Kari loved it!  (Her favorite princess is Sleeping Beauty, or, as Kari calls her, "I Know You."

Great-Grandma came and was, naturally, put on baby-duty .
(I don't think she minded too much :-).)
Auntie Erin came out for the fun too and she and I took turns with Kari out on the ice.  Apparently, Kari enjoyed her time out with Erin more b/c when I asked her what her favorite part of her party was, she responded, "Skating with Auntie Erin."  Awww....

Always up for something a little bit different, we sure are happy Kari wanted to go skating!

What a fun party!!! I think next time I go skating I will request one of those walker things. Maybe then my hind end won't be so sad the next day ;)

looks like you had the rink to yourselves! and i like how your "walkers" had tennis balls on the bottoms of them....ours didn't and having to dodge flying metal daggers while on skates was dangerous! looks like the birthday girl had fun, and got some good girlie stuff.
